How to Add Annotations to Youtube Videos

by norbertorlewicz on May 30, 2012

In this video I’m going to walk you through the process of adding annotations to YouTube videos. This is a really important step that you should be doing to each YouTube video you post.

Make sure you have first properly optimized your youtube video.

Annotations are used to get people to subscribe to your YouTube channel, to get likes, to get shares and even to send them to other videos (to get more views).

When you add an annotation you can also add different Calls to Action, that give people a small nudge to watch some of your other videos. They may not even know that you have other videos, unless you invite them to view the other videos featured on your channel. You may have a series of videos you can get them to subscribe to on your channel.

The only thing that you cannot do with the annotations is send people to a website outside of YouTube.

If you want to do that (which of course YOU SHOULD!) then you will want to set up a CTA (Call-to-Action) overlay in your youtube videos.

When you link your annotations, you can link it to a video, a playlist, or a channel. In my video I show you step-by-step how to add several annotations in the beginning and at the end of the video.

It’s important to know what to put in your annotation bubble to get viewers engaged in your channel. You can add a “Click Like” link that will remind users to “Like” your video.

Once they do this, the “Like” link will ask them to post the video to their Facebook page. What this Call to Action does is tells viewers to “head on over to your website”.

In the video above, I’ll walk you through adding annotations from start to publish.
